Hi there… I am “upstatelisa”.
I am a wife, a mother to three (homeschooling 2 of my kids), a quilter/textile artist/crafter/dabbler, a gym junkie/runner, and a vegan too! Originally from Ottawa, Canada, home is now the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains.
Ever since I was a young girl, I have loved to craft. When I was 13, my paternal grandmother gave me some money toward my first sewing machine. I took sewing lessons at our local Singer Sewing Store and then in school. I worked in a fabric store during high school. I took my first quilting class at a community college after I married, and I was hooked! My style has evolved and now I love to combine my love of the needle with a variety of mixed media. I am lucky enough to have no dining room furniture! Sounds crazy but that means I have my own room!
If you are wondering why I have such an usual name well…..when I signed up for an account on Yahoo 10+ years ago, I needed a user name but “Lisa” just wouldn’t do.. (it is THE most common name for girls born in the 1960s after all!)… so having just moved to upstate NY, I gave myself the name, Upstatelisa, and it has stuck ever since!
